Clifton Beach

As the up market Clifton beach apartments attest, Clifton is one of the most affluent suburbs in Cape Town. It is an exclusive residential area and some of the most expensive houses are found in this location. Many of the apartments in Clifton are located on the high cliffs in order to take advantage of the vast views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Many of the Clifton apartments are rented out to visitors, especially during the summer months. Visitors will find the Clifton rental will almost certainly be designed around the views, with large windows and often ample veranda’s.

Visitors staying in one of these Clifton apartments for rent will soon find that the area is known for its set of 4 beaches, which are a favorite of both locals and tourists alike.

The beaches are named Clifton 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th, all share the same silky, soft sand and are separated by large granite boulders. After a few visits to the beaches, visitors will soon be able to spot these very boulders as the backdrop to many advertisements and fashion spreads, as they are an interesting space allowing for the models to drape themselves over the boulders in various positions.

One of the great perks of Clifton’s four beaches is that they are protected when the South Easterly wind blows. The South Easterly wind is referred to as the Cape Doctor by the locals, for its ability to blow the smog out of Cape Town and into the sea, but when it blows, it tends to blow quite strong, often ruining the experience of another beach.

There is a fifth beach, called Moses, which is located before 1st beach, but it disappears and reappears as the sand is washed in and out with the seasons.
